Chinchilla fur is one of the thickest of any mammal, with up to 60 hairs growing from each individual follicle. This dense fur is an adaptation to their natural habitat in the Andes Mountains of South America, where temperatures can be very cold and the air is dry. A Chinchilla in Africa is bound to find life a little toasty in summer or even sometimes in the African winter! - so here is a very clever way to minimise stress on your Chin and improve his life greatly over summer.
Simply put the the granite slab in the fridge to cool it down and then put it out in your Chin's habitat to cool him/her down. The slab is 25 cm long, 15cm wide and about 1 cm thick.
Sometimes the simplest solutions are the very best!
